What's this Lantern Festival all about?

It's a festival of lights organized by around a hundred Chinese artisans from the city of Zigong, in the southern province of Sichuan, China.

In the 2019 edition, which took place in Gaillac, more than 400,000 spectators came to admire this ancient Chinese art; an art that traces back to the Han Dynasty that ruled the Middle Kingdom between 206 BCE and 220 CE.

In 2021-22, it was the city of Blagnac, a few kilometers from our establishment, that hosted the Lantern Festival.

In 2023, it was the turn of the city of Montauban, located less than 60 km from our hotel-restaurant, to host this event. The last edition gathered more than 320,000 spectators. For the 2023-24 season, Montauban will also host the Lantern Festival until February 11, 2024.

Many displays, 250 lanterns, covering an area of 5 hectares

Artistic creation will, of course, be a priority once again for this 2023-2024 edition, with numerous displays that will be exhibited throughout the Foucault course in Montauban.
The 5-hectare park will be illuminated, according to your path, with nearly 2500 lanterns.
In past years, visitors could see a dragon on a lake, and for example, pay homage to pioneers of airmail (Clément Ader, Latécoère, or Antoine de Saint-Exupéry). Finally, some noticed a nod to Jurassic Park or other myths and legends...

In 2023-24, the park will be open for two months, from December 15 to February 11, every evening from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Finally, artisans present a traditional Sichuan craftsmanship market: freshwater pearl jewelry, stone sculptures, paintings, or traditional lucky charms...
